Conquer the highest cold desert and create a legacy!
Gilgit Baltistan is perhaps, the most spectacular region of Pakistan in terms of its geography and scenic beauty. The Cold Desert located in sarfaranga village in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan is the world’s highest desert with an altitude of almost 1000 feet. The Skardu desert is enclosed by a valley and covered with lush green vegetation at the confluence of the Indus and also the Shigar Rivers. The distinctive quality of this desert is that it’s a cold desert with sturdy winds bashing the sand dunes. Its sand is white, granular and very fine which is a beautiful surprise itself. Its mesmerizing cold nights and splendid sandy view holds a strange attraction.

The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan had hold the Sarfaranga Desert Rally on 23 Aug 2019 in collaboration with PakWheels.com powered by Indus Motor Company ltd.
It is a unique recreational event, which produces positive results and besides participation of national level professional drivers and adventure lovers, international racing enthusiasts have also eagerly participated in the rally.
Contenders from all over Pakistan came together in hopes to become Conqueror of Sarfaranga rally. Veterans like Magsis, Sahibzada Sultan, PMRC, Team frontier 4×4, IJC Club, ZOR and many other clubs participated in this grand event. Aside from male rally racers, female rally racers also participated in the event.
Nadir Magsi led the Race day on 25th August 2019. He won in the Prepared Category A, completing the 50kms+ track in 36 minutes and 11.97 seconds.
Shiraz Qureshi in the Stock Category A, completing the track in 45 minutes and 56.09 seconds, and Mrs. Rashid Abdullah in Women Category, completing the track in 55minutes and 54.49 seconds.
Toyota Pakistan organized their Fast Fun Fest Activity on 23 rd of August in the deserts of Sarfaranga as an event, where amateur riders came and competed against each other. The objective of this activity was to promote motorsports in Pakistan and give the thrilling experience to potential riders who love to drive Toyota Hilux. Mr Kamran Ilahi was the winner for the activity, whereas Mr. Khursheed came down as the 1 st runner up and Zafar Abbas was the 2 nd runner up in the race. Asif Ullah Khan, Secretary tourism, distributed the shields to the winners and appreciated the efforts of Indus Motor Company in promoting motorsports in Pakistan.
